How It Works
How Is the Reactive Penalty Calculated?
Under EPDK regulation, if a facility's monthly inductive reactive energy consumption (kVArh) exceeds 20% of active energy consumption (kWh) — or capacitive reactive consumption exceeds 15% — the distribution company applies an extra penalty on the excess. This penalty can reach 5-20% of the monthly bill.
Our calculator derives the ratio from the active and reactive kWh/kVArh values you enter, and shows the amount over the limit and the estimated penalty. Argus EMS performs this calculation automatically every month with live meter data at 15-minute granularity, and alerts before the limit is exceeded.
