How to Connect to Argus EMS

1

Physical Connection

Connect the device to the RS-485 or Ethernet network. Configure Slave ID and baud rate from the device front panel or web interface.

2

Add Device in Argus

From the Argus web panel click "New Device". Select DSE 8610/8620 from the template list — the register map loads automatically.

3

Live Monitoring

The Field Agent tests the connection; the first reading appears on the dashboard within 60 seconds. Alarm thresholds are configured.

What Can You Monitor?

  • Engine speed (RPM), temperature, oil pressure
  • Battery voltage and charge status
  • Generator L1/L2/L3 voltage and current
  • Total active power (kW) and energy (kWh)
  • Running-hours counter and fuel level
  • Fault codes and alarm status
  • Automatic start/stop (ATS) event log
  • Periodic test-run tracking

Why Is Generator Monitoring Critical?

🏥

Hospitals

Generator start delay is critical in operating theatres and ICUs. Argus reports low-battery and low-fuel alarms in advance.

🏢

Data Centres

Generator active power tracking is essential for PUE calculation. The running-hours log automates maintenance planning.

🏭

Factories

During a production line outage, generator load capacity adequacy is visible instantly. The overload alarm prevents critical machine loss.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the DSE 8610 connect to Argus EMS?
The DSE 8610/8620 has built-in Modbus TCP support. Connect the DSE Ethernet port to the Field Agent PC via LAN cable. Port: 502, Slave ID: typically 1. The Argus device template loads the register map automatically.
Can generator fuel level be tracked?
Yes. The DSE module reports fuel level as a percentage. A threshold alarm is configured in Argus (below 20% is critical); email notification is sent automatically.
Are generator ATS transitions logged?
Yes. DSE's event log records and Argus's alarm engine work together. Grid loss, generator start, synchronisation, and return-to-grid events are recorded with timestamps.
Can UPS and generator be monitored together in a hospital?
Yes. Argus EMS monitors UPS (SNMP/Modbus) and generator (DSE) devices together within the same project. The critical power chain is visible on a single dashboard: grid → UPS → generator → load.
