How to Connect to Argus EMS

Physical Connection

Connect the device to the RS-485 or Ethernet network. Configure Slave ID and baud rate from the device front panel or web interface.

Add Device in Argus

From the Argus web panel click "New Device". Select M-Bus Water Meter from the template list — the register map loads automatically.

Live Monitoring

The Field Agent tests the connection; the first reading appears on the dashboard within 60 seconds. Alarm thresholds are configured.

How are M-Bus meters connected to the network?

M-Bus is a two-wire serial protocol. An M-Bus Master (Level Converter) aggregates multiple meters and converts to TCP/IP. The Argus Field Agent reads all meters in a single connection via M-Bus TCP.

How many M-Bus devices can be read simultaneously?

A standard M-Bus segment supports up to 250 devices. Argus EMS scales to manage thousands of reading points; each meter is registered as a separate Argus device.

Can leak detection be done with M-Bus water meters?

Yes. Argus EMS allows a minimum flow rule to be defined between 01:00 and 05:00 at night. If abnormal flow is detected during this period, an alarm email is sent — providing early warning for pipe bursts or forgotten open valves.

Are Zenner, Sensus, and Diehl brand meters supported?

Yes. The M-Bus protocol is standardised (EN 13757). Argus EMS supports any EN 13757-2/3 compliant water, heat, or gas meter.
