In most facilities water consumption is recorded once a month as a manually read index. What happened during the thirty days in between is unknown: a cracked line, a constantly running cistern or a forgotten garden valve is noticed only when the invoice swells. In estates that allocate per apartment, manual reading is both a workload and a source of disputes.
Argus EMS reads M-Bus water meters remotely and regularly; it derives consumption in m3 from the index difference, converts it to cost with the tariff and feeds leak early warning. Water appears in the same report as electricity and gas.
A water monitoring system reads the index of M-Bus or Modbus water meters at regular intervals through a gateway. The index difference between two readings is that period's consumption in m3; that value is converted to an amount using the water tariff. Because the main meter and the sub-meters are defined as separate devices, consumption is visible both facility-wide and per apartment or block. Remote water meter reading removes the monthly manual index round; water consumption monitoring continues without interruption and by a single method.
Manual reading produces one data point a month; remote reading produces a series for every hour of the day. That difference has three practical consequences: a leak becomes visible the next day rather than months later, apartment allocation leaves the reading-error argument behind, and water consumption becomes comparable with electricity on the same time axis.
