PM8240

The PowerLogic PM8240 is a premium IEC 61000-4-30 Class A certified power quality analyser. With 512 MB of memory, 256 samples per cycle and comprehensive PQ analysis it produces power quality compliance reports for factories, hospitals and critical industrial facilities. K-factor supports transformer harmonic load assessment (IEEE C57.110). 44 register points are pre-defined in Argus.

Integration with Argus EMS

The PM8240 connects to Argus EMS over Modbus TCP over Ethernet, and because a ready register template ships with the platform you do not have to work out a point map on site. The field agent polls the device every 60 seconds by default, writes the reading into a local queue first and then forwards it to the server over MQTT/TLS; nothing is deleted before the server acknowledges it. Hourly and daily summaries are derived from these raw readings, and the consumption and cost screens are fed from the same series.

When Is This Model the Right Choice?

This is a power-quality class device: harmonic components, voltage events and event records are part of the measurement. Questions about reactive penalties, harmonic-driven heating or unexplained failures of sensitive equipment are answered from the records of this class.

The device serves Modbus TCP directly over Ethernet, so no gateway is needed. In exchange, each device needs an IP address on the network and a switch port inside the panel. If more than one master polls the same device at once — a building automation system alongside Argus EMS, for example — its concurrent connection limit has to be respected.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the PM8240 connected to Argus EMS?
It connects over Modbus TCP over Ethernet: directly over Modbus TCP (port 502) — no separate gateway is needed. The field agent polls the device every 60 seconds by default, writes the readings into a local queue and forwards them to the server over MQTT/TLS. If the link drops the data waits in the queue and is backfilled once the connection returns.
Does the PM8240 need a register map to be worked out separately?
No. A ready template with 44 points is defined in Argus EMS; you pick the template when adding the device and enter its address and slave ID. The point-by-point mapping step on site disappears, and the same model is read with the same template in every project.
Can the Schneider Electric PM8240 measurement be compared with the electricity invoice?
Yes. The measured kWh index is placed side by side with the invoice from the distribution company, and the distribution charge, YEKDEM and reactive items are shown separately. Bill reconciliation therefore rests on your own meter's index rather than on an estimate.
